With being at home these past 8 months, I was blessed with unlimited time to read. Whether it was a book on tape or an old fashioned book, I completed 11 in this time. It's not that much, not a book a week or anything, but it was good for me. The knowledge I gained from reading and what I discovered about myself during this period is invaluable. I learned about the war in Afghanistan in Where Men Win Glory, spirituality in The Secret, love in Redeeming Love and God throughout all. Reading is so important. It challenges your beliefs, exposes you to parts of the world and experiences that you may never encounter, and it always gives you something meaningful to talk about.
Yesterday, I read On Palin's Reading List: C.S. Lewis in the Wall Street Journal. C.S. Lewis' views on reading are as follows: "For Lewis, one of the best ways to know a person was to know what they read. He was convinced that books defined us and shaped our character. He realized that books did more than prepare people for interesting conversations with journalists—they prepare us to respond to the crises we encounter in our own lives." Knowing what people read is the best way to know them. Books are the key to people.
Erin, I read "Redeeming Love" this summer also!SOOOO GOOD!
